Pandemonium broke out yesterday when some youths clashed with officials of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, (BEDC) in Ifetedo, in Ife South local government area of Osun state leading to the death of one person while several others were injured.
A source in the town told newsmen that some staff of BEDC, had raided the community and disconnected electricity of some buildings owing the company. Our correspondent further gathered that troubled erupted when some unidentified youths resisted the move by some officials of BEDC to disconnect their house lamenting that they have not been enjoying electricity supply in the town.
The staff of the BEDC sensing danger in the situation promptly called on the police and soldiers for protection. The crisis, it was further learnt degenerated when the soldiers and policemen called to the scene arrived the town and during the melee, bullet allegedly hit one of the protesting youths in the neck.
A resident of Ifetedo, Olalere Adepoju, who spoke with our correspondent in a telephone interview, stated that bullet hit one person in the neck but could not tell who fired the shot. Another resident of the town, Koyejo Rasak noted that the community had been in darkness for several days, a development that angered the residents when BEDC officials came to the town.
