Osun: No Pay, No Work, NLC Tells Aregbesola

Yetunde Oladejo, Osogbo

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Osun state chapter yesterday declared that the state workforce would not suspend its over five weeks strike, even as the state government promised to pay them one month salary.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo yesterday, the state chairman of NLC, Comrade Jacob Adekomi in the company of other state labour leaders shortly after holding a meeting with government officials led by the chief of staff, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola said only December, 2014 and the balance of November same year was approved for payment.

He said it was disheartening that the government now said they would only pay only one month net salary, stating that most of the workers had incurred debts, even with their banks that will render the payment useless. His words: “we appreciate the efforts of the government to see that salary and pension arrears are settled without further delay .

Our negation with government is that out of 8 months owed us, the minimum we can take is 5 months to resume work. “With the situation as it is now, the strike continues while negotiations also continue. I appeal to all workers in the state to continue to stay at   home until further notice. “This payment is as good as no payment, because all deduction must have been made by our various bankers. Because of this , there won’t be money for us to transport ourselves to work and feed families.
