A group, Osun Renaissance (OR), has called on the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ignore the directive of the national leadership of the party ordering the verification of the status of the spokesperson of the party’s Presidential Campaign Committee, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode. The group after rising from an emergency meeting yesterday, decried what it called “vindictive stance” against the former Aviation minister, whom they said “voiced the aggregate opinion of PDP members” regarding the former chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo, the representatives of the group in the three Senatorial Districts in the state, Femi Odofin, Osun Central, Bimbo Adunola, Osun West, and Femi Oladapo, Osun East, contended that at a time it is expected that NWC would engage Fani-Kayode with higher responsibilities, some people are hell bent on pushing him out. Their words: “But as members of PDP in the home state of National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo and the man in question, Fani- Kayode, we fell it is pertinent to state at this point that he has not done anything wrong by asking NWC of PDP to quit.“We recognise his contributions during our presidential campaigns and it is a well known fact that before he was brought in, our publicity machinery had been poor.
We hereby warn our SWC working committee not to allow anyone further burden us with more trouble by suspending any member. They should not take any hasty and harsh action against Fani-Kayode or any other party member.” The group described the resignation of the former national chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, as “necessary step to salvage the party” urging the NWC to take more far reaching decisions not minding the discomfort that may accompany such.
