Dealers of plumbing materials and other building accessories under the umbrella, Onitsha Building Materials Dealers Association (OBMTA) Bridge-Head, Onitsha yesterday held an election that produced leaders that would lead the association in the next four years.
The election which was held at Godwin Achebe mini stadium, Fegge, Onitsha witnessed a large turn-out of traders who trooped to the venue to cast their votes for candidates of their choice.
The election which was free and fair produced Mr. Ebuka Efobi as chairman. While Valentine Chimezie Obi and Cle- tus Onah emerged Secretary and PRO respectively.
Addressing Journalists after his election the newly election Chairman of Onitsha Building Materials Traders Association (OBMTA),Mr Ebuka Efobi stressed the need for co-operation among traders of the union and promised to carry everybody along for reposing their confidence in him.
In a speech the President General, Bridge-Head, Chief Sunday Obinze who described the election as free and fair stated that the victorious team should be humble in their new positions and endeavour to carry all the members along while discharging their functions.
Chief Obinze who was elected the President-General of Bridge-Head market earlier this year, however, urged the newly elected members of the association to transform the union by living up to their campaign promises.
He advised those who lost in the election to support the victorious team, stressing that leadership comes from God.
In an interview at the occasion, the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Anthony Onyeachonam remarked that the success of the election was as a result of determination of the electoral committee to carry out a credible election through strategic planning.
Some patrons of the union, Chief Okey Ojimba and James Ojemba both applauded the peaceful conduct of the traders during the election.
High point of the event was the swearing-in of the newly elected executives by a patron of the union.
