The Sultan of Sokoto and President Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Muhammedu Sa’ad Abubakar lll, has thrown a big challenge to leaders of Northern Nigerian, urging them to work and stop hiding under the shadow of past glory of late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardaunana Sokoto.
The Sultan who dropped the challenge in a speech at the occasion of 50th Commemoration of The Demise of Sir Ahmad Bello in Kaduna yesterday said Northern leaders should be honest and practice the leadership quality of Ahmad Bello, rather than reading his literature alone.
“So much has been said about the Sir Ahmad Bello, the only premier of northern region in the past decades. So much has been written about him, therefore, we are not short of literatures on his lifetimes, what he said or did, and what he meant to millions of people. Therefore, if we want to be honest to ourselves we have to go back to those literature and read, and not just read, but work with what you have red,” he said.
Painting a scenario of instances of people who have had enough in connection with Sardauna’s good work, the Sultan further explained that ” there’s a problem we’ve find ourselves now, after hearing from Damasam Kano.
He gave a lot, you would want to hear everyday about Sardauna, but i challenge all of us here to stop hidden under the shadow of Sardauna. If we want to see the leaders of our dream, all of us here, the leaders and led must work and behave like Sardauna”.
He added that, “because if you have good leadership and back followership, you still have problem, and if you have good followership and terrible leadership you still have problems”.
He therefore challenged Nigerians to take their destiny in their hands by confronting the world economic challenges for been part of global economy.
The Sultan noted that the current leaders came at a time the country has no much resources, but has so much of citizens jobless and wanting to leave their lives in the best.
” And you have to provide for everybody therefore, I don’t envy you but I challenge you to take the mantle of leadership to face up the challenges very well by creating job for the teaming youths that parade our street with nothing to do, because they are time bomb within to explodes”, said sultan.
According to Sultan, anybody who has nothing do and is hungry can be used with ten kobo, and therefore enjoined northern leaders, governors, to pass the information to others that were not present at the occasion.
