Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced institutional changes with the sacking of 39 top management personnel in a move to trim down the corporate structure.
The corporation also replaced the heads of its strategic business units and subsidiaries and also appointed new Group Executive Directors to oversee its different departments in a move that is easily interpreted as total management change out’ Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division who is not affected in the management overhaul, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, stated yesterday that the new Group Managing Director, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, secured presidential approval for the new appointments.
Although the names of the sacked management personnel were not immediately released to the public, Mr. Alegbe stated that the reorganization has cut the corporation’s top management staff from 122 to 83 while only four Group Executive Directors now man at the four new Directorates approved by the Presidency. Dr Kachikwu, is quoted as saying that the new appointments “are in line with the federal government’s aspiration to transform the corporation into a lean, efficient, business-focused, transparent and accountable national oil company in keeping with international best practices.”
The new Group Executive Directors listed in the statement are Dr. Makanti Baru who is now the Group Executive Directorin charge of Exploration & Production; Mr. Isiaka Abdulrazaq, Group Executive Director in charge of Finance and Services; Engr. Dennis Nnamdi Ajulu, Group Executive Director in charge of Refining and Technology; and Dr. Babatunde Victor Adeniran, Group Executive Director in charge of Commercial and Investment.
Also appointed in the new group executive management are Chidi Momah, a Group General Manager who functions as Company Secratarty and Legal Adviser; Mrs. Esther Nnamdi Ogbue who is now the Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC); and Engr. Chinedu Ezeribe who becomes the Managing Director of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC).
Also, Mr. Babatunde Bakare is now Managing Director of Nigerian Gas Company (NGC); Mr. Inuwa Ibrahim Waya is the Managing Director of Hyson Limited; Mr. Abubakar Mai-Bornu becomes the Managing Director of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC); and Mr. Ladipo Fagbola who is now the Managing Director of NNPC Retail.
