Against the backdrop of recent courtesy visit by a faction of the chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to the Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, the rival faction of the organized labour in the state has kicked against the visit while urging the state governor to trade with caution. Recall that as at the last Workers’ Day celebration on May 01,2015, there was impasse within the organized labour in the State which is yet to be resolved inline with the position of the immediate past administration of Senator Theodore Orji which was made public by the immediate past commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. ACB Agbazuere.
However worried by the present direction of the present administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu especially in granting audience to the Comrade Waba Ayuba led NLC leadership structure in the State under Comrade Uchenna Obiwe, the Comrade Joe Ajero led faction in the State under Comrade Christopher Uche Ezeikel called on the State government to apply wisdom in resolving the impasse to avoid drawing the State into a fresh round of labour crises.
Reacting to the courtesy visit in a Press Statement in Umuahia, and made available to newsmen, the Comrade Ajero faction of the NLC in the state said the group that visited Governor Ikpeazu were not a true representation of the organized labour in the State. The statement which was jointly signed by the factional State chairman of NLC, Comrade Christopher U. Ezekiel, and the State Secretary Comrade (Engr.) A.U. Ukomadu disclosed that all requests made by the members of the union to have audience with Governor Ikpeazu has remained blocked.
