Niger To Give Automatic Scholarship To Students With Distinctions

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State has directed the establishment of two special primary schools in each of the 25 local government areas in the state in order to meet UNESCO’s standards at every aspect of primary education. This was contained in a statement issued by Dr. Ibraheem Dooba, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor ,saying, the number of the special schools would be increased later.

It added that governor had pledged to give scholarship to any indigene of the state who earns eight distinctions in SSCE to study abroad. “Give us eight distinctions and we’ll underwrite your education abroad”, the Governor said. The Chief Press Secretary further disclosed that emphasis will also be given to science students who performed well but are short of the eight distinctions, adding that their own sponsorship would be in Nigeria.

The measure is aimed at giving Nigerlites qualitative and sound education which is the bedrock of any meaningful development, the statement noted. The present administration will continue to evaluate and monitor standard of education in the state with a view to addressing the rot in the sector, the, statement added.

Dr. Ibraheem Dooba revealed that government need practical not theoretical solution to the falling standard of education in the state, stressing that governor Abubakar Sani Bello is ready to invest heavy in the education sector as it remains the greatest source of empowerment as well as foundation for human development of any country or society.

The statement reminded the people of the state that accountability, good governance, probity and due diligence were the frame work on which the society and democracy thrive and called on the people of the state to continue to support and co-operate with the present government’s commitment at improving the lots of the citizenry.
