Niger Govt Warns Over Land Encroachment At Zuma Rock

Iliya Garba Minna

Niger State government has warn holders of “Certificates of Occupancy” on all lands surrounding Zuma Rock and its vicinity are hereby warned to stop forthwith any further development as such titles are illegal.
This stern warning was handed down by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Culture, Mr Jonathan Tsado Vatsa when he visited the site and saw that the lands surrounding Zuma Rock have been marked and demarcated into plots ready for sale to unsuspecting members of public by shylock land speculators yet to be identified.
He said that lands surrounding Zuma Rock are under the purview of his Ministry and are meant for tourism development which is the main focus of the present administration to serve as its major revenue source.
The Honourable Commissioner expressed shock and disgust at how some individuals whom he said do not have the interest of the State at heart acquired what he described as the Niger State commonwealth meant for Nigerlites as personal property for selfish gains.
Mr Jonathan Vatsa said that those in possession of Certificates of Occupancy on such lands should note that Niger State Government has the right to revoke all plots of land because according to him, public interest overrides individuals’ selfish interest.
He therefore warned that Niger State Government would not hesitate to meet force with force with any individual or group, no matter how highly placed caught circumventing this order.
The Honourable Commissioner cautioned that any person or group of persons that patronises these shylock land speculators on any parcel of land surrounding Zuma Rock does so at his or her own risk.
