NEMA Denies Social Media Reports On Poor Feeding Of IDPS

Ahmed Mohammed, Maiduguri

The Stakeholders in the management and coordination humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno have denied some reports on social media that the IDPs are not properly fed.

The stakeholders at a press conference held at Barwee Hotels Maiduguri yesterday and read by the Zonal Coordinator Alhaji Mohammed Kanar said “the stakeholders are surprised at some insinuations making round in some social Media (twitter) and a letter purportedly addressed to the higher authority’s intention to discredit the services rendered in these camps”

He said “this accusation is untrue and baseless as all stakeholders who are involved are here to reiterate their commitment to humanitarian services in line with global best practices”.

He said the stakeholders hold state coordination meeting to review the challenges and achievement every two weeks, adding that the meeting is to facilitate effective coordination of humanitarian assistance, bridge communication graps with a view to facilitate joint planning in addressing the needs of the IDPs in camps and host communities.

Mohammed Kanr stated the NEMA also supported the state government in paying the medical bills of referral medical cases of vulnerable IDPs from camps and victims of bomb blast, stressing that the NEMA has also given N30 million to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital as support to enable them respond to referral cases on time.
According to the Zonal Coordinator NEMA, there is 125,000 IDPs in Maiduguri spread across the 15 camps and that their feeding has been completely taken over by NEMA, adding the IDPs were been served three square meals daily, while doctors without borders assist the IDPs medically.

The stakeholders includes NEMA, SEMA, UNICEF, WHO RED CROSS MOVEMENI, state ministry of health, UNFPA, MSF, IMC among other humanitarian organizations.
