N’Assembly Takes Over Kogi Assembly

The National Assembly on Wednesday took over the Kogi State House of Assembly following recommendations of a House of Representatives special committee setup to lo‎ok into the Kogi Assembly crisis.
It was approved by the House after it was put to a voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Yusuff Latin who presided.
Recall that on the February 16, 5 Members of the Kogi  Assembly  impeached its Speaker, Momoh Jimoh. Sparking of the crisis.
The committee in its report said that due to the intractable and volatile security situation in the state, the National Assembly should invoke it powers conferred on it by section 11 (4) of the constitution to take over the legislative function of the State Assembly pending the restoration of normalcy.
It was approved by the House after it was put to a voice vote.
The House further directed the Inspector – General of Police, Solomon Arase to seal up the premises.
The House also urged the warring factions to amicably resolve the misunderstandings and report readiness to go back in performing it’s legislative function.
The 10 man delegation who went to ascertain the true nature of the crisis was led by the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Pally Iriase.
The delegation had met with Governor, Yahaya Bello ‎and other stakeholders in the bid to resolve the issue.
