Lawmakers To Help Udom Achieve More – Deputy Whip

The Deputy Chief Whip of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Otuekong Nse Essien, has assured that the administration of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, would consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for more dividends of democracy to thrive in the State.

Speaking in an interview in Uyo, the State capital, yesterday, Otuekong Essien, who represents Onna State Constituency, disclosed that the lawmakers have resolved to work in consonance with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) guidelines, for effective implementation of the policies and programmes of the new government. He said the 6th Assembly would work with the Governor to take inventory and assessment of some ailing or abandoned projects with a view to revamping them through public and private sector initiative.

The Governor, he noted, has the knack to drive the State to the highest level of socio-economic development in the next four years, urged the people to shun sentiments and be in the vanguard of Odom’s vision of greater Akwa Ibom of the future. “I know the Governor will achieve a lot because he is young, talented and committed to the task of taking the uncommon transformation drive of the immediate past government to another level”, he assured.

According to him, his colleagues were desirous of avoiding rancour and acrimonious dispositions, but work in harmony with the Executive to create the enabling environment for investments, jobs and wealth creation for the people. Hon. Essien, who thanked his members for recommending him as one of the leaders of the 6th Assembly, promised not to disappoint them, adding that in the next four years, he would work with his colleagues to improve quality of legislations and promote good governance in the State.

Besides, the lawmaker was full of praises for his constituents for ensuring that PDP won in the last elections, assuring that such gesture would spur him up to provide effective representation and more dividends of democracy to the area. Areas of priority, according to Essien, would be the promotion of education with scholarship grants to the people, healthcare, human capital development including engagement of 70 youths in various vocations to be independent. “We will train the youths to be gainfully employed; I want the young people to be gainfully employed”, the lawmaker stressed.
