The Attah Igala and President of Kogi state Council of Chiefs, His Royal Majesty Idakwo Michael Ameh Oboni the 2nd has appealed to Kogites to remain calm and peaceful in the face of the current political logjam rocking the governorship battle in the state.
The Attah Igala who spoke at the stakeholders forum organized by the Independent National Electoral Commis- sion(INEC) in Lokoja yesterday, maintained that power comes from God stressing that whoever the Almighty deemed fit will surely emerge.
His Royal Majesty noted”As royal fathers we always stand for peace in every situation, the gladiators in the governorship race should strive to play the game according to the rule.
“Candidates of all political parties in the game and their supporters should co-operate with INEC in ensuring the peaceful conduct of the inconclusive governorship election come saturday this week” He condemned the violence acts of some loyalists on the present political impasse created as a result of the sudden death of the APC governorship candidate, prince Abu- bakar Audu in the state saying that those involved in the crisis should take the option of embracing amicable resolution rather than protest.
According to the Attah Ig- ala”agrieved people on the on-going political crisis in Kogi should channel their case through the appropriate agencies and the rule of law”.
In his welcome address at the forum, the Kogi state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mallam Hussaini Halilu Pai affirmed that necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure hitch free supplementary governoship election on saturday this week.
The REC disclosed that voters register to be used in the 91 polling units where election were declared inconclusive have been printed while the Smart Card Readers also to be used for the election have been configured and charged along with the backups.
He also disclosed that distribution of the non-sensitive materials to be used for the election as well as the recruitment and posting of the ad-hoc personnel is on-going while the distribution of the sensitive materials will commence on Thursday 3rd. Of this month.
