…Urges him to call DSS to order
Worried by the recent invasion of the Government House by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), elders and stakeholders of Akwa Ibom State have raised the alarm, accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of plans to muzzle opposition States in the South-South.
Also, a Northern group, under the aegis of Arewa Youth for Development(AYPD) described the raid of the Akwa Ibom Government House, Uyo, by men of the DSS as an act of impunity.
Addressing Journalists yesterday in Uyo, the State capital, the elders led by Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, queried the safety of Nigeria’s hardwon democracy in the hands of the former military ruler of the country and urged Nigerians to rise against what they described as a clear violation of democratic ethos.
he elders, who noted that such dangerous action has no precedence in both democracy and military rule, said such action was “a clear breach of the immunity of the Governor and a continuation of the programmed harassment which the Federal authorities have persistently visited on opposition elements since after the elections”, he added.
A statement issued in Kaduna and signed by the President of AYPD, Comrade Danjuma Sarki said after a carefully scrutiny of the recent news of the raid of the Akwa Ibom Government House, by the men of DSS and critically analyzing the dangers it portends to the entrenchment of the rule of law and sustenance of a virile democracy in our country, “we hereby emphatically condemn the action in its entirety and call on the DSS to apologize for the embarrassment it has caused the government and good people of the state”.
