Imo: Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest

The gale of kidnap activities that has been ravaging Imo State continued unabated with the abduction of Rev. Fr. Francis Ugoo Egbebu of the Catholic Diocese of Orlu in an undisclosed area of the state by unknown gunmen on Tuesday.
Sources said the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N5million.
Egbebu, who is the parish priest of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Umuola Amaigbo in Nwangele council area of the state, was last seen driving out Monday morning, but could not be seen throughout the afternoon and evening of same day.
The news however was broken by the kidnappers themselves who were said to have demanded a ransom of N5million
The state police spokesman, Andrew Enwerem (DSP) confirmed the incident and said the police had commenced rescue operation to ensure the priest was freed unscathed.
