Imo Assembly Gets New Speaker, Deputy

The seventh house of the Imo State House of Assembly was yesterday inaugurated by Governor Rochas Okorocha with the members electing the member representing Okigwe State constituency, Chief Acho Ihim as the new speaker. The House also elected the member representing Nwangele State Constituency, Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo as the Deputy speaker.

The new speaker and the deputy speaker who are both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, were nominated and elected unopposed by the 27 members of the state house of assembly They were later sworn in by the Clerk of the state house of assembly, Barr. Chris Duru. Inaugurating the house of Assembly earlier, Okorocha urged them to make peopleoriented laws so that the people would have cause to be happy with them.

The governor, who earlier commissioned the renovated House of Assembly Complex, expressed willingness to work with the House to move the state forward. In his inauugural speech, the new speaker, Ihim stated that the house under his watch would work with equal vigour like Governor Okorocha and match the governor’s actions depth for depth.

He noted that the responsibility of the speaker was very enormous and as such, required the corporation of all members to succeed. Ihim also stated he was aware the enormous expectations from the people of the state, and promised that the house would do everything to uplift the people of the state.
