Security agencies in Imo State have recorded another huge breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and armed robbery with the killing of another wanted notorious kidnapper, named tallest.
The suspect, who operated from Umuowa community in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, was gunned down by men of the state Police Command a few days after the apprehension of another kingpin “Vampire” by security agents in the state.
“Tallest”, who is said to have hailed from Ahoada, Rivers State but resided and operated from his maternal home of Obile, Ohaji Egbema Council Area of the state had for a long time been on the wanted list of security agencies for many high profile kidnap cases such as that of Mr. Uchenna Alaribe, a young millionaire businessman from Umuokeada, Logara Ngor-Okpala and others.
He had however been evading the dragnet of security agencies until luck ran out on him a few days ago while perfecting a kidnap operation they were to carry out in Ihitte Okwe community in Ngor Okpala.
Our correspondent gathered that men of the Nigeria Police Force, Imo State Command, on getting a tip-off of the suspect’s rendezvous, stormed the hideout of the criminal who, on sighting them, tried to escape.
Luck however ran out on him and his men as the vigilant policemen in a bid to stop the kingpin from escaping shot at them and critically wounded two members of the gang, who sources said, later gave up the ghost.
Three members of the gang however escaped. The police are reportedly on the trail of the fleeing kidnappers who were suspected to be hiding in the forest around the adjoining communities of Obiangwu, Umuohiagu and Ihitte Okwe.
When contacted for official confirmation, the spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, told The UNION that men of the Force stormed the hideout of the kidnappers, and in the process, two of them were apprehended with critical gun injuries.
