A split may be in the works as Benue State chapter of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has lampooned the forum for ignoring it, despite cries for help, while the state came under heavy attack by Fulani herdmen leading to massive loss of lives and property.
Benue state chapter of the Forum, which lodged a strongly worded complaint against the parent body, said the Alhaji Ibrahim Coomasie-led Forum, turned away its eyes from Benue in the heat of crises between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen.
Protem chairman of Benue state chapter of the forum, Senator Fred Orti, who made the complaints while presenting a report to the central body at its AGM in Kaduna, Tuesday, said the headquarters was requested to intervene in the crises but ignored the requests.
“The state is faced with the problems of Fulani herdsmen invasion and the resultant clashes between pastoralists and Benue farmers resulting to crises and colossal loss of lives and properties.
“It is the state chapters request that ACF national headquarters to come into this boldly to find a way of intervention in this crises”, he said.
Tagged: Report By The Benue State Chapter Of The ACF AGM”, the chairman stated that Benue state, in the last year’s annual report, suggested that the headquarters should delegate a team to visit Benue over the crises to show that it is a caring organization which has the whole north in mind, but ACF ignored the request.
“Nothing has so far been done by headquarters in this regard”, he added.
“We suggested also that ACF national headquarters should take interest in securing other States that have problems of insurgency and other vices to curtail them so that they do not consume the entire north”, he suggested.
The state chairman however expressed appreciation to the national body for sending a delegation to the burial of late Tor Tiv, Dr. Afraid Akawe Torkula.
While he recommended that peace committee of the forum should redouble efforts in working in bringing about peace and unity to people of the north, Orti noted all effort made to bring more people to join AFC in state as members, was futile, as they were reluctant.
