Health Ministry Disowns Fake Doctor, Says He Was Imposter

Dyepkazah Shibayan, Abuja

Federal Ministry of Health yesterday officially disowned one Mr. Martins Ugwu Okpe w‎ ho worked in the ministry for nine years for impersonating Dr. George Davidson Daniel. Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Mr. Linus Awute told journalists that the imposter who assumed duties in 2006 worked in the Departments Hospital Services and Health Planning Research and statistics.

“Mr Ugwu was an argumentative and bellicose officer who had tormented the lives of other colleagues in the ministry, serving as a competent and confident trickster ‎and an extorter. “Mr Ugwu was found to have perfected his trade of extortion not only from staff of the main m‎inistry, but often harassed heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry Of Health, “he said.

Awute said t‎hat in May 2015; the imposter raised a false alarm alleging that Ebola Intervention Funds were misappropriated. “This was an alarm calculated to divert attention from his detection by colleagues in the Ministry as a possible imposter and identity thief who must have impersonated a m‎edical doctor.

“He surprisingly sent his petition not only to all security organisations in the country, the Presidency, but also copied the key international partners of the Ministry of Health, thereby scandalising the name of Nigeria and trying to rubbish the achievements made by Nigeria on the Ebola containment success, “he said.

The permanent secretary also said the imposter also sent threatening text messages intimidating anybody who he perceived was behind his travails adding that due to Mr. Ugwu’s conduct a petition was sent to Federal Civil Service Commission having the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria copied (MDCN).
