The member representing Enugu East Urban Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi has emerged the Speaker of the State Assembly. Prince Edward Ubosi is grandson of the late Igwe Edward Nnaji, the Odezuruigbo the second and Royal Father of the Nike Kingdom.
Ubosi, a second-term member of the Assembly and a loyalist of the immediate past governor, Sullivan Chime, was unanimously elected and sworn in as Speaker to pilot the affairs of the House in the new dispensation. The Clerk of the House, Mr. Christopher Amadi Chukwurah, who inaugurated the 6th Assembly which was attended by a crowd of people from various parts of Enugu state.
A motion for the nomination of Ubosi was moved by Hon. Sunday Ude-Okoye, representing Awgu North and seconded by Hon. Ikechukwu Meletus Ezugwu, representing Udenu. When no further nomination was made, the clerk declared him elected as the Speaker and called him up to take his oath of office. Also, Hon. Donatus Uzogbado of Oji-River Constituency was elected as the Deputy Speaker. He was nominated by Hon. Chinedu Nwamba representing Nsukka East constituency.
