Govt Moves To Key Into N2.3b AFDB/FG Agric Programme

Enugu State Executive Council has approved the active participation of the state in the implementation of the over N2 billion staple crops processing zone (SCPZ) agricultural programme of the African Development Bank /Federal Government of Nigeria.

The State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele while briefing the Government House Correspondents at the end of the council’s meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, said that the federal government and the African Development Bank (ADB) would provide a credit facility of two billion, three hundred and forty-three million naira (N2.343 billion) in which the state is expected to make a yearly counterpart contribution of the sum of seventy-six million,one thousand, two hundred and thirty-two naira, sixty-six kobo (N76,001,232,66k) for a period of five years.

According to the commissioner, the council has also approved the immediate release of the said amount for the state’s 2015 counterpart contribution to facilitate loan drawn down, disbursement effectiveness of the project and the take off.

He noted that the fund will be used for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Adani Irrigation scheme, provision of infrastructure, feeder roads and schools. Others are provision of health centres, water/sanitation and rice value chain development including training of youths and women of the state for employment generation
