The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has said in Enugu that the people of the South East Region of Nigeria believe tenaciously in the credentials of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) evidenced in the massive support for the party in the last election. Speaking on arrival at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, where he was received by a crowd of party enthusiasts and supporters Ekweremadu said that the South-east region voted for the Peoples Democratic Party because the people believe in the party.

The Enugu-born politician who against all expectations emerged Deputy Senate President for the 8th Senate, appealed to senators and all political office holders to settle down for business in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians. The Senator is of the Peoples Democratic Party which lost its majority status to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the last general election in the country. He urged the administration of President Muhamadu Buhari on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to accommodate all Nigerians irrespective of party and ethnic inclination.

According to him: “We have no regrets, Igbos have no regret over the way they voted; if they have the opportunity tomorrow, they will do it again. “We are convinced we voted rightly and because we believe we are part and parcel of this country, we believe what we got is within our rights. “So, we expect that APC should be able to accommodate the people of South-East as they form their government at all levels”. Ekweremadu represents Enugu West Senatorial District at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, NASS.
