The Department of State security service has disclosed that it had arrested some kidnappers and other criminals in some states and reassured Nigerians of its readiness to check activities of criminal gangs in the country.
This is contained in a statement by the department, signed by Mr Tony Opuiyo in Abuja on Saturday. Opuiyo noted that some kingpins in a gang popularly known as “Federa” were apprehended, who specialise in kidnapping of rich persons.
“Gentlemen of the press, the operations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of some of the identified kidnap gangs and others hibernating at various areas across States of the Federation.”
The statement also assured Nigerians that it would not relent in its efforts to checkmate the activities of any criminal gang that terrorized innocent citizens across the federation. The statement urged members of the public to volunteer useful information that would assist the service in apprehending criminal gangs, promising that such information would be treated with ‘’utmost confidentiality and dispatch’.
As the Service moves to fulfil this mandate, members of the public are urged to freely volunteer any useful information that would assist in dealing with such criminal gangs. Be assured that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality and dispatch.
It said that any suspect arrested by the service would be arraigned in courts in accordance with the law, adding that efforts were on to apprehend fleeing members of some kidnap gangs and others hiding across the country.
“While judicial processes are being perfected to arraign the arrested suspects before the courts in line with relevant laws, this Service wishes to use this medium to assure the good and responsible citizens of this great country, that it would not relent in its efforts to checkmate the activities of any criminal gang that terrorizes innocent citizens across the Federation.
