…Lebo Emerges Speaker
Twenty-five members of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRHA) was inaugurated yesterday in Calabar as Hon. John Gaul Lebo emerged the speaker of the 8th Assembly. The Speaker who is in his second time and representing Abi State Constituency is ally to former Governor Liyel Imoke.
He emerged unopposed while another second timer and member representing Calabar South two state constituency, Hon.Joseph Bassey (a.k.a) BaBa emerged unopposed as deputy speaker. Speaking shortly after the election and swearing in, Lebo thanked his colleagues and people of the state for giving him the opportunity to serve and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
The oath of office was administered on the speaker and his deputy by the clerk of the house Mr.Bassey Ekpeyong. Mr.Moses Ochiche representing Obanlikwu state Constituency was also elected Leader of the House while Okon Epraim lawmaker for Calabar South one state constituency emerged as Chief Whip of the House.
The 25-man legislative Assembly is constituted by only PDP members. Out of the lawmakers inaugurated, 9 lawmakers are old Assembly men while 16 are new members. Prof. Ivara Esu who represented the Governor Benedict Ayade urged the house to live up to its task and advised members to strive to live as good ambassadors of their constituencies.
