Lagos State Government Alerts Residents On New Dimension To Crime In The State Using Perfumed Handkerchiefs
Lagos State Government yesterday alerted residents to a new dimension of criminal activities in parts of the state perpetrated by men of the underworld.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Habib Aruna, the state government said unscrupulous persons rendered their prospective victims unconscious by rubbing a perfumed handkerchief on their faces.
The statement noted that perpetrators of such acts often got their unsuspecting victims either in lonely commuter buses, taxis or quiet corners.
It said such perfumed handkerchiefs are often drugged and are capable of weakening the victims or making them unconscious before they are either robbed or raped. “By the time the effect of the drugged perfume wears off, the criminals would have fled off after robbing a victim”, the statement noted.
According to the statement such cases had become rampant in the Igando axis of Alimosho Local Government Area, which the state government listed as “one of the areas where this new dimension of crime has become very pronounced in recent times. “It is not yet known how harmful the drug being used on the handkerchief is. While that is being checked out, it may be necessary to alert members of the public on this new dimension”.
