House Of Assembly In Plateau State Shelves Its Plenary As Members Disagree Over Who Becomes The Speaker.
The 8th House of Assembly of the Plateau State shelved its plenary yesterday as members disagreed on who becomes the speaker of the House.
The House could not choose between All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon Peter Azi and Rt. Istifanus Mwangsat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hence the election of its principal officers were shelved.
In a deliberation that lasted over six hours at the hollowed chamber of the Plateau State Assembly complex , venue of the sitting, the two candidates Hon Azi of APC scored 12 and the former Speaker, Rt. Hon Mwangsat scored 12 votes.
The Union gathered that even as the APC and the PDP were given opportunities to go and reconcile but they failed to reach a compromise thereby compelling the Clerk to announce the rescheduling of the election to a later day.
However, there was great confusion amongst the supporters of APC and PDP in the state who were seen leaving the Assembly complex. However, our correspondent sources revealed that the 8th Assembly is one of the historic owning the fact that PDP which has 13 members- elect failed in its bid to produce the Speaker of the House.
