The new 10,000 sitting capacity on- going construction of Immaculate Catholic Cathedral Church building in lokoja has collapsed injuring five persons. The Kogi State deputy governor, Yomi Awoniyi, who was at the site of the incident, ordered stoppage of work pending the submission of report by the committee set up by government to establish the immediate cause of the collapse.

Awoniyi urged the committee made up of experts from the state government who will work with the resident engineers to speed up their assignment saying that the timely submission of its report will aid in preventing future occurrence and sympathized with the injured and the church.
In his remarks, Rev Father Anthony Akande, the Cathedral Administrator, said the incident happened when the workers were on break and thanked God that no live was lost. The Clergyman added that eight engineers who were supervising the project gave a pass mark to the work already carried out and wondered why the unfortunate collapsed describing the incident as very surprising.
