Buhari Issues Service Guide To Ministers

Ministers Must Obey The Rule Of Law, Guard Against Wastages As Well As Report To The President Through The Chief Of Staff While Delivering On Change Goals
Ministers-designate yesterday received rules of engagements under the current administration as President Muhammadu Buhari reeled out the direction of his administration to them.

The President, who noted that his administration would be judged by the number of Nigerians they were able to take out of poverty, urged the ministers to observe the rule of law and avoid wastes.

While congratulating the newly appointed ministers, the president urged them to count themselves privileged to be so chosen out of the millions of Nigerians to be instruments of change. “We must count ourselves privileged to be chosen above millions of our compatriots at this historic time, to be the instrument that will deliver the change, we
have promised”, he said.

The President, while quoting copiously from Williams Shakespeare to buttress his speech, said expectations from Nigerians were high, adding that the retreat marked their first official contact with the machinery of government.
Quoting from Shakespeare he said, “There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures.

“I invite you to join me in this urgent mission of our country”, he charged them. President Buhari reiterated his earlier resolve to fight corruption, solve unemployment problems as well as tackle insecurity. He also reiterated his resolve to diversify the economy and count their achievements based on the number of Nigerians that are moved out of poverty.

He noted that the retreat is an important part of their orientation that will enable them be an integral part of the team. The President, who declared that his election was based on his promise to tackle corruption, insecurity and unemployment, as well as reshape the economy, noted that already, his administration has “taken deliberate measures to block leakages in the economy”.

Speaking on his efforts to tackle insecurity, President Buhari noted that his administration has degraded the Boko Haram, who in their desperation, have now resorted to attacking soft targets through suicide bombings, killing innocent people.

He declared that diversification from oil as a major source of revenue will be a major target of the current administration. He also declared war against HIV and Aids, strengthen agriculture sector as well as broadening the nation’s revenue base, as part of the economic focus.

“Our economic focus will ensure inclusive growth and we will count our achievements based on the number of
Nigerians we will remove from poverty. “The need to observe the rule of law, is being reemphasized to ensure that
impunity is removed from government conduct.

“It is expected that we make the running of government as lean as possible, avoid waste and conserve resources, as
Ministers, you must be the real agent of change”, Buhari stated. He declared that the retreat will give the ministers the direction of the current administration just as he urged them to work as a team and live up to the highest slandered of probity and integrity, Nigerians expect of the government.

He also called for clear communication and urged the Ministers to freely interact amongst themselves, adding that
their channel of communication with him will be through the office of the Chief of Staff as it is the practice in the
Presidential system.
