Replacements for the service chiefs sacked on Monday by President Muhammadu Buhari, have been immediately announced by his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
According to a statement released by the special adviser, Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai is the new Chief of Army Staff, while General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin is now the new Chief of Defence Staff. Both of them replaced Kenneth Minimah and Alex Badeh, former army chief and former CDS respectively.
Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas is the new Chief of Naval staff in place of the former one Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin. The former Chief of Air staff Adesola Amosu, has also been replaced by Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
Moreover, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan is the Chief of Defence Intelligence, while Major-General Babagana Monguno is the new National Security Adviser, who replaced Colonel Sambo Dasuki. The new Service Chiefs appointments are based on acting capacity until their appointments would be confirmed by the Senate.
However, while sending the former Service Chiefs and National Security Adviser packing, President Buhari thanked them for their previous services delivery to the nation and wished them well in their future enterprises.
Nonetheless, a summary of their states of orgin is as follows: Maj.-Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin – Chief of Defence Staff = Ekiti State; Maj.-Gen. T.Y. Buratai – Chief of Army Staff = Borno State; Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas – Chief of Naval Staff = Cross River; Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar – Chief of Air Staff = Bauchi State; Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan – Chief of Defence Intelligence = Benue State; and Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd.) – National Security Adviser = Bornu State.
