No fewer than eight persons were killed, while seven others were injured yesterday morning when a male suicide bomber riding a tricycle detonated the explosive device he was carrying on the middle of the road near Gamboru market in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
An eye witness, Abubakar Ibrahim, said the male suicide bomber who was carrying the Improved Explosive Device (IED) in a tricycle popularly known as Keke NAPEP stopped at the middle of the road and after a traffic build up, detonated the IED, killing eight persons, including the suicide bomber and injuring seven others. Ibrahim said those injured have since been rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).
He also disclosed that human flesh littered the area as the heavy blast shattered the three tri-cycles and the Golf Car that were close to him, scattering the flesh of their occupants on the blast scene.
A victim of the blast, Mohammed Abubakar, said he was standing by the roadside when he heard the sound of the blast, upon regaining consciousness he saw himself at the hospital bed with friends and relations surrounding him.
