Biafra: S/East Govs Vow Peace In Region

Governors Of The Five South-Eastern States Have Assured Of Peace In The Region As They Move To End Agitations For Biafra

Governors of states in the South East zone have called on Movement for Actualization of the Sovereign of State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to continue to toe the line of peace as the only way to ensure economic development of the zone and Nigeria at large.

The governors spoke after their emergency meeting to review continued street protests and demand for the actualization of Biafra by unarmed youths in the region. The meeting held at the Government House, Enugu. A communiqué from the meeting, which was read by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, expressed resolve of the governors to consult widely with Ohanaeze, traditional rulers, towns development unions, the clergy and other stakeholders on how to ensure lasting peace in the zone.

To achieve this, the governors further scheduled an emergency meeting of stakeholders to hold on November 22, 2015 at Enugu. According to Okorocha, attendance to the meeting will be for all ministers, national assembly members and critical stakeholders from the zone.

The governors also expressed concern about the poor state of the federal government roads in the zone, among which are, Enugu-Onitsha Road, Aba-Ikot Ekpene Road, Owerri-Port Harcourt Road and Enugu-Port Harcourt Road. They further agreed to appoint a high level Economic Advisory Committee to harness the economic potentials of the people of the South East working together.
