At last Alhaji Yahaya Bello has been sworn-in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Nasiru Ajanah as the governor of Kogi state after much legal battle to stop him by opponents of his victory.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello in his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office and allegiance, promised to run all inclusive government that will make every section of the state and political parties benefit tremendously from the system.
The new governor also promised to priotise education, health, security and heavy investment in solid mineral.
He equally gave an assurance to declare zero tolerance on corruption and impunity, saying he must reform the civil service for efficient service delivery.
Bello further disclosed that he will give attention to provision of basic social amenities and security of lives and property.
According to him, I belong to generation that strongly believed in complete departure from the way and manner public office is been runned. I will operate all inclusive government irrespective of religion, tribe and political party”
While soliciting the co-operation of the people of the state to enable him succeed, Bello urged them to give him the benefit of doubt and see the quick transformation of the state.
On the issue of four months unpaid salaries that led to labour strike in the state in the last two months, the governor promised to dialogue with all the relevant stakeholders with a view to end the strike.
He however commended the immediate past governor Captain Idris Wada for his co-operation that led to successful transition of his administration.
Earlier, the national chairman of the All progressive Congress (APC) chief John Odegie-Oyegun said kogi people have no choice than to accept the will of God.
According to him” I want to say with every emphasises that Alhaji Yahaya Bello is a gift to Kogi state. I have interacted , consulting with him, he is a man who had the interest of the state at heart. Though he is young but deep in his quest to transform the state.
The APC chairman however appealed to the people of the state to give him total commitment and undiluted co-operation as he face the avalanches of challenges awaiting him, assuring that the party at the national level would give the governor the require support and assistance to succeed.
Also speaking, the chairman of the inauration committee and Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaiye expressed displeasure over the sorry situation in Kogi state, assuring that Bello’s administration would leave no stone unturned in attending to the infrastructure decay in all part of the state.
He appealed for unity and common understanding, stressing that the state will achieve a lot with maximum co-operation.
Dino also called on the aggrieved members of APC in the state to toe the line God and join hand with the new administration in the interest of the state.
