Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has frowned at the indiscriminate and unapproved development on wetland along water channels and canals in Calabar metropolis and across the State by builders.
Consequently, all land developers of claimed approved buildings, illegal buildings and structures standing on wetlands, water channels and canals should be removed. A statement by the permanent secretary, Dr Chris Ita, directed all land developers in the aforesaid portions of land in the state to comply with the state government directive within 30 days from the commencement of this announcement or face the consequences.
According to the statement, the state government in the interest of the public safety and wellbeing of its citizens strongly advises land developers and intending land developers to cease from contemplating any form of development on water lands, water channels and canals across the state.
