Association To Train Farmers On European Produce Standards

Dr Victor Iyama, the National President of Federation of Agricultural Commodities Association of
Nigeria, has said that farmers will be trained on how to apply insecticide to produce to meet European market standards.

Iyama made the statement in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday.

He said packaging had been an issue and to improve on it, workshops and seminars would be organised to ensure that agricultural commodities were properly packaged.

“For us to compete with European standards, we need to address the gaps, such as good agricultural practices and meeting the standards as laid down,’’ Iyama said.

He said another challenge that needed to be addressed was the issue of storage.
Iyama called on the government to address the issue of storage facilities for produce.

`I tell you, a lot of what we produce honestly goes to waste because of the lack of preservative method to preserve agricultural commodities,’’ he said.

According to him, with the effort, the current administration is putting, in the next two to three years, the country will be exporting all sorts of agricultural commodities. (NAN)
