Centre For Human Rights And Social Justice, Pensioners And Civil Servants In Osun State Declared Yesterday That Governor Rauf Aregbesola Lacks Moral And Constitutional Justification To Continue In Office

A Human Rights group in Nigeria, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Pensioners and civil servants in Osun state yesterday took their protest to the state House of Assembly declaring that governor Rauf Aregbesola and his deputy, Mrs. Grace Laoye-Tomori lack the moral and constitutional justification to continue in office. The protesters who took their three(3) pages protest letter which contained the fourteen impeachable offences of the governor and his deputy to the speaker to the state House of Assembly.
They were armed with the placard with various inscriptions like; “Aregbesola Must Go”, ”Osun Assembly: Aregbesola has committed constitutional fallacies-Tell Aregbesola to change State of Osun to Osun State”, ”Aregbesola has committed many impeachable offences like spending without Appropriation”, “Osun Assembly must commence impeachment process against Rauf Aregbesola now”,”Aregbesola,thief, thief, thief”, among others.
The protest letter was received by the deputy chief whip, Hon. Adeyemi Taiwo who said that the lawmakers felt what the state workforce and the pensioners are currently passing through assuring them that the letter would be deliver to the speaker. The protest was later took to the popular Olaiya junction, Alekuwodo, Oke-fia to old garage where the organizers also addressed the mammoth crowd that gathered at the popular round about in the state capital.
Addressing the crowd, the executive chairman of CHRSJ, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman said the right group threw its weight behind the call by a serving Judge of an Osun State High Court, Justice Oloyede Folahanmi that the State House of Assembly investigate the alleged mismanagement of the State’s financial resources leveled against Aregbesola’s administration as well as commence an impeachment process against the governor and his deputy.
Sulaiman pointed out that Aregbesola has plunged the state into financial crisis due to the reckless spending without legislative provision, which presently lead the state not to be able to pay its workforce and retirees to the tune of seven to eight months. He stated that Aregbesola illegally acquire helicopter for personal use without legislative provision, adding that the governor has been spending the state resources on fruitless political journey such as Ondo, Kogi, Ekiti states governorship elections, in the name of dislodging another state governors .
According to him, “we are using this opportunity to call on the State House of Assembly through its speaker, Mr. Najeemdeen Salaam to commence impeachment notice on the Governor Aregbesola.
