Aregbesola: Civil Society Groups Back Odumakin On Probe Call

The Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation (CSCEO) has thrown its weighty behind the petition submitted by the Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Comrade Yinka Odumakin, to detailing the allegations of financial mismanagement and corruption against governor Rauf Aregbesola the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It would be recalled that Comrade Odumakin, who is an indigene of the state, submitted the petition titled “Petition against Governor Rauf Aregbesola for financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of Osun State’s resources”, on behalf of a group, called Osun Stakeholders last week.

Besides, the group alleged that Aregbesola received the sum of N10 billion from the Federation Account in the month of June, questioning why the state government paid half salary to its workforce after collecting the full allocation from the Federal government that could pay three (3) months salaries conveniently out of the backlogs of seven (7) months salaries instead of borrowing huge amount of money from Federal Government/CBN bailout loan.

CSCEO while referring to a publication recently released in the media, from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja, detailing the allocation accrued to the state from the Federation Account querried Aregbesola of keeping quiet as if allocation   was not released to the state and Local Government areas of the state by the Federal government since the beginning of this fiscal year. The group stated that the sum of N4. 542,593,453.51 was received by the state government while the thirty (30) local government areas of the state received N5,419,694,016.58 for the month of June, 2015.

In a statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, a copy was made available to The Union in Osogbo, yesterday, urged the anti graft agency to expedite action on the investigation into the alleged financial management of the state under Aregbesola’s administration. Sulaiman, who alleged that Aregbesola has committed financial crimes against the people of the state, maintained that Aregbesola has sunk the state into financial problems beyond redemption.

His words: “Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola’s government has   blindfolded the people of the state with series of lies since all this while on the allocation accrued to the state from Federation Account and as well mismanaged the huge resources accrued to the state which is against the spirit of openness, fairness, justice and accountability promised the people by Aregbesola’s government.

To let the people know the reason why the Odumakin’s petition is now being criticized, it is because the petition explained itself and there is no way Mr. Rauf Aregbesola can escape the anti-graft bodies probe and prosecution after leaving office like the immediate past Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido and other former governors in the country.

“Mr. Aregbesola has plunged Osun State into debt regime which the state may not recover from, in the next ten (10) years and Mr. Governor failed to give tangible explanations on how funds from federation account like; State allocation, local government allocation, Sure-P, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) fund, Excess Crude Oil, Ecological Fund, accrued to the state and other funds like; Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Federal Lawmakers Constituency allowances, Workers Pension Contributory Fund, Workers Cooperative Deduction loan, Bond fund and Commercial banks loan were expended.”
