Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday urged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to the service of the country as a way of returning the glorious past of the nation. Ambode, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, made the call at the Independence Day parade to mark the 55th anniversary of Nigeria.
He said there was need to rekindle the flame that ignited the determination of the founding fathers to fight for and obtain independence. “On this day, Nigeria defined her sovereignty as a people and since then had collectively built a strong nation, united and indivisible in spite of tough challenges.
“Together, we shall continue to reflect on the labours of our founding fathers and heroes of democracy, so that their labour will not be in vain,’’ he said. Ambode also urged residents to key into the aspirations of the state government to move the state to the next level of development and take centre stage in global reckoning.
