The Abia state National and State Assemblies elections tribunal yesterday dismissed the petitions by former governor of Abia state Chief Oiji Uzor Kalu and chief Bourdex Onuoha challenging the election of chief Mao Ohuabunwa as senator representing Abia north in the senate.
The tribunal presided over by Justice Adenji Onigban- jo in a ruling yesterday in Umuahia declared senator Ohuabunwa as duly elected senator for Abia north in the last general election. The presiding ruled that Chief Ohuabunwa having satisfied all the necessary electoral requirements in the last election was hereby duly returned as senator representing Abia north.
The former deputy majority leader of the House of Representatives in a reaction in Abuja yesterday however described the ruling of the tribunal as another victory the democracy and rule of law. He said that the judiciary has by the ruling showed that it is the last hope for common man.
He said that his victory was another confirmation of popular choice by the good people of Abia north. The lawmaker however extend his hands of fellowship to his opponents.Chief Ohuabun- wa also thanked the people of Abia north for standing by him through out the period in court.
According to him, all hands must be on deck to move the senatorial zone forward. Senator Ohuabunwa said he would remain committed to task of quality representation for the zone. He said he would continue to address the erosion menace ravaging the area .
