We Use Victims To Attract Sympathy –Trafficker

A man who specializes in trafficking on children and young girls to use them in order to attract sympathy from people for financial gains has been nabbed by men of the Benue state Police Command.

One of the suspected traffickers paraded yesterday by the Police in MAKURDI told newsmen that they usually pump water in the stomach of their victims aged less than ten to make it swell as if they were suffering from sickness to elicit sympathy from people.

“If our victim is a matured female that has breast we use some chemicals to pull the breast and make it look large as if she is suffering from cancer or any other dangerous disease, and by doing this we get people’s sympathy and they give us money,” he explained.

The trafficker who identified himself as Ornyaa Chia, said he was a mechanic but left the job and has been in his new business for one year and usually move with some of the victims to beg for money.

According to him, their boss who he gave his name as John Chia resides in Onitsa, and they usually send all the money they make from the victims through begging to him.

“On a daily basis we make between ten thousand naira to twenty thousand naira per person, but we have a man in charge of finance who usually send our daily returns to our boss in Onitsa,” he noted

While briefing newsmen earlier, Commissioner, Benue State Police Command, Hycinth Dagala said the victims of Human trafficking, identified as MIMIDOO Choson from Gboko and Blessing Moses from Guma, were rescued in Lagos by ‘Hands That Cares Foundation’ and were transported to the state by the foundations National coordinator, Evangelist Jacinta Nwankaego.

The Benue Police Commissioner noted that the strict application of modern policing methods, in line with the policy thrust of the new Inspector General of Police Mr. Solomon Arase, among which are visibility policing, community partnership, raiding of criminal hideouts among others are being pro actively adopted to tame the activities of criminal elements in the state.

He assured that men and officers of the Benue state police command will continue to partner with other security agencies alongside members of the community and stakeholders in meeting the expectation of law maintenance in the land.
