The Police Enugu state command has smashed a notorious six- man armed robbery gang terrorising the state and its environs in recent times.
Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amarizu, DSP said the hoodlums were nabbed by operatives of Uwani Division of the command.
He said: “the suspected Armed Robbers have been wrecking havoc within Uwani and its environs.”
The Command spokesman, gave their names as Monday Ojah, Chibuike Duhu, Onyeka Abuchi, NwekeIbe Ifeanyichukwu, Malachy Ugo and Chinonso Eze.
“They were nabbed by the operatives following a tip off and were involved in several nefarious activities ranging from armed robbery as well as cultism amongst others
“The suspects are helping the operatives in their investigations,” he disclosed.
He added that in their response, the suspects confirmed that they were members of the JVC Confraternity cult group.
According to Amarizu: “They (the hoodlums) went further to reveal how they usually robbed their victims by pointing gun and inflicting fear on them.
The bandits were rounded up after robbing a man who fell victim to them on their way home after an initiation ceremony. The Police vowed to eradicate miscreants who had been tormenting the people.
Reacting to the successes recorded by the Police, a resident of Uwani, Elder Raphael Akaeze expressed delight with the development. “I believe we can now sleep. “Almost every night its residents are awaken by gunshot sounds as if we are in a war.”
Akaeze implored the Police to intensify surveillance of the Uwani and Achara Layout areas of the city. He also pledged the cooperation of the residents in the war against men of the underworld.
