Baring any last minute change in plans, the Senate will on Wednesday next week, hold a special valedictory service for its former member, late Senator Uche Chukwumerije.
Inside Abuja reports that until his death, late Chukwumerije, who died on April 19, was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education. Eldest son of the deceased, Che Chidi Chukwumerije, announced this in Abuja while briefing journalists on the activities lined up for the late senator’s burial.
He said that the valedictory service, which will take place at the Red Chamber will be followed later in the evening by a night of tributes which will take place at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton hotels in Abuja by 6 p.m.
Chidi, who was joined by members of the burial committee, headed by Senator Ben Obi, added that his father’s body would leave Abuja airport at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, after a brief ceremony for the Enugu airport, where another brief ceremony will be held, upon arrival at the Coal City.
He said that the body will move straight from the airport for his home town, Isuochi, where the lying- in-state will take place around 2 p.m., while the service of songs would follow at 8 p.m.
He added that the funeral service would be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, while the interment will follow immediately in his compound.
