Efforts of the Police in Enugu State has paid off as operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) have arrested no fewer than 23 suspected bandits suspected to be terrorising residents of the state and its environs

The Operatives of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) Police Enugu State Command have arrested no fewer than 23 suspected bandits and terror groups suspected to be making life uncomfortable for the residents.
The hoodlums sources said have their hideouts within Artisan quarters axis and Njemanze street of Ogui Enugu where the police made a surprise raid.
Among the suspected criminals who were rounded up unawares were the dare devil armed robbers who had been a torn in the flesh of residents of Trans-Ekulu and New Haven, all within Enugu Metropolis.
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Enugu Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu in a statement gave the name of the leader of one of the gangs as Nnamdi Annointing Aka, explaining that one of the gang members (name yet to be disclosed) was fatally wounded in a crossfire with the police operatives. He gave names of other gang members simply as Onyeka and Obumneme who are now in police custody.
He said several arms and substances suspected to be Indian hemp have been recovered from the suspects.
“Recovered from the hoodlums include – three AK 45, one short barrel gun, one double barrel cut to size gun, two locally made pistols, one brownie pistol, eight live cartridges, 68 rounds of AK 47 live ammunitions and 2.09mm live ammunitions. “Suspects arrested are undergoing interrogations which is very fruitful and yielding results as they are helping the police operatives in their investigations,” Amaraizu said.
According to DSP Amaraizu, the latest war on crime was part of a programme initiated by the Commissioner of Police in Enugu state, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed to rid the Coal City of bad elements.
He recalled that the gang leader, the said Nnamdi popularly known as ‘Anointing’, a deadly armed robber and who alongside with his gang members allegedly led an assault, which led to the death of some policemen at New Haven Link road, met his waterloo at Ogbanokute axis of Trans Ekulu Enugu where the armoury of the notorious gang were raided by the SARS operatives.
Amaraizu assured that the Police Command had stepped up surveillance in all parts of the state, and vowed to consolidate and sustain its proactive measures in partnership with the public in ridding the environment of men of the underworld.
