Police Niger Begins Sensitization On Community Policing

Police Niger State command has commenced an aggressive programme aimed at sensitizing residents towards embracing community policing so as to help in fighting crime in the society as well as fight against the security challenges confronting the nation.

The command Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP Bala Elkana made this known at the weekend during the sensitization of various community leaders, Nongovernmental Organisations at Paikoro Divisional office, B Division in Minna the state capital.

Elkana intimated that the programme is in collaboration with the Justice for All (J4A) a United Kingdom, Department for. International Development (DFID) funded programme to assist Nigerian government aimed at improved personal security and access to justice for all Nigerians.

He said that the policing services were to be strengthened in new or adopted ways using an integrated model of Community Policing, Community Safety, Neigbourhood Policing and Crime Prevention to meet International standard of good practices.

The PPRO explained that the police has acquired training on community policing that the country will start to see a new face of policing in Nigeria, adding that departments will be put in place where complaints would be channeled through especially issues that concerned women and human rights.
