One Dead As Cultists Rampage, Banker Injured

The police have stepped up efforts to unravel the killers of a 24-years-old apprentice Emeka Ibeneme, who was shot to death by unknown gunmen at ogunjobi street, Fadeyi Bus Stop, area of Lagos State.

At the ensuing shooting sources said a staff of the United Bank For Africa Moruf Adebayo, cheated death by the whiskers when bullets of the gunmen pierced through his stomach and he was rushed to the hospital where he is recuperating.

Sources said Commissioner of police Lagos Command Cornelius Aderanti has put his men at alert to apprehend the suspects.

The apprentice Ibeneme, who hailed from Imo State, was attacked by the hoodlums who demanded for his wallet.

It was gathered that the victim who was coming from his master’s shop at Ojuelegba, had resisted and he was shot to death while they made away with his wallet and mobile telephone.

Our source said the incident which occurred on Thursday, April 23 at about 11 pm was reported at the Alakara Police division where corpse of the decease was removed and deposited at the public mortuary for autopsy.

At the moment our sources said the State Commissioner of Police Cornelius Aderanti has directed for a full indepth investigations of the matter.

Police investigation sources said has so far revealed that the hoodlums who were riding on a motorbike numbering about ten had stormed the area with the intention of disrupting a naming ceremony of one of their rival cult group at Fasayan street.

It was gathered that when the assailants got to Fasanya Street, where the party was supposed to take place, but was postponed following a report by the host that they may be attacked.

It was gathered that the hoodlums who were disappointed at the outcome of their planned dastardly act had resorted to robbing members of the public while some cars were destroyed as they shot sporadically.

“ We are tired of these boys they have taken laws into their own hands. They came in a large number shooting anyhow making people to run for their dear lives. I learnt a young man was killed while some others sustained injuries.

“The boys behave as if there is no law in this country, the police should do something about these cultist, our lives are in danger,” our source said.

Master of the deceased Mr. Onyeka Anaezionwu, narrated that the suspect left his shop some minutes before he was killed. “We were both in my shop at Ojuelegba where I sell building materials I left him in the shop and asked him to meet me at home.

“At home, I heard some gunshot and I became worried about him since was yet to return. I heard a knock on my door and some persons who know him as my boy came to break the news that he was shot. “I went there and met him in the pool of his blood. Immediately I saw his corpse lying on the floor, I fainted, but I was later revived by the residents who removed his corpse and deposited it at the military hospital morgue, Yaba.

“ The boy was very hardworking he was supposed to graduated last year December, but I kept him due to his hard work and honesty I extended his stay with me. I persuaded the parents to allow him to work till December, 2015. Now the boy has been killed.

On his part, father of the Banker, Alhaji Sulaimon Adebayo, said some youth in the area brought his son unconscious after he was shot.

The victim sources said was rushed to the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital, LUTH, for proper medical attention.
