Kogi NDLEA Seizes 2,702.976kg Of Illicit Drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi command,has made a total seizure of 2,702.976kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the first quarter of 2015.

The command also arrested 60 suspects including four women and 56 men over drug-related offences and impounded four vehicles conveying the drugs to their various destinations between January and March, this year.

The Commander of NDLEA in Kogi state Alhaji Idris Bello disclosed this in an interview with THE UNION yesterday in Lokoja.

Bello said that the figure was made up of 25,575.172 kg of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp); 801 kg of Diazepam and 126.953kg of Tramadol capsules.

He said that two of the arrested 60 suspects had been convicted while 30 others were at various stages of their trial in court with two others undergoing rehabilitation and counseling adding that the rest were drugs users who were counseled and allowed to go.

The commander hinted that the agency’s Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) Unit was now functional in state for in-house rehabilitation of drug-dependent persons (addicts) brought by their communities or parents.
