Emmanuel Okoli, an alleged armed robber who had been sent to jail severally over the same crime, has again been arrested by the police for robbey.
Operatives of the Police Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) were miffed when they arrested one Emmanuel Okoli, an alleged armed robber who had been sent to jail severally over the same crime.
The suspect had been arrested by the police and charged to court, which sent him to jail for four times before being released.
This time, he is being interrogated at the Abba Kyari- led Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police.
The suspect who has named some other members of the gang has confessed taking part in series of armed robbery cases in the state.
Okoli was arrested this time along with three other suspects when they attacked a banker in Ajah area of Lagos State while waiting for a staff bus to convey him to his office.
Three other of his partners in crime were able to escape but he was apprehended and handed over to the police.
During interrogation at the SARS operatives were shocked at the startling revelation that he had been arrested and jailed severally only to return to the same crime.
Okoli, a resident of Sango Tedo, Ajah and a native of Awka, Anambra State said he is a professional stylist. According to him, he is a specialist in tattoo, adding that he was arrested this time when he and other gang members went on an early morning operation.
“Four of us went to a club and since I was just released from prison they said they want to help me to gather some money to enable me buy some clothes and other needs. They suggested that we should visit some clubs where they snatched some mobile phones from people and handed them over to me to keep in a bag I was holding.
“ They were able to snatch five phones, and thereafter they suggested we should move to Vow Time club in Awoyaya.
“We were drunk and we left the club at about 4.30 am; they asked me to follow them from behind while two others should be in the front, when we saw a lady carrying a hand bag, my other colleague asked me to move and snatch the bag.
“ I confronted the lady to hand over her bag to me or risked her life but the lady was brave, she challenged me and raised the alarm unknown to me that her staff bus was approaching.
“ She rushed inside the bus and told other workers who chased and got me arrested while my other colleagues successfully escaped.
“They took me to their bank and later handed me over to the police at Ajiwe police station in Ajah. I spent three days in Ajah police station before I was brought to SARS.
“I have gone to prison thrice, that was in 2012, where I spent three months, in 2013 I spent four months in Ikoyi prison, in 2014, I spent three months. In 2014 one boy amongst us whom I know as Sunday Kareem owns the only gun our gang use during operation and the police charged us to court since the boy ran away and the police were insisting on recovering the gun from us.”
Nigeria Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State command, Kenneth Nwosu who confirmed the arrest said the suspect was arrested two days after he was released from jailed.
Nwosu said the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
“Our investigations reveals that the suspect was arrested in 2011, he was arrested, charged to court, spent five months in prison before he was released. In 2012, he was arrested, charged to court and spent four months. In 2013, he was arrested for yet another alleged armed robbery, charged and spent six months in prison. In 2014, he was caught for another armed robbery, charged to court, spent another six months before he was released.
“Further investigation revealed that he joined robbery gang at the age of 15.
