Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has called for more collaborations with the Nigerian Police Force on training and Capacity building.
The corp Marshal of the FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi called for improved collaboration when he paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, at the Force headquarters in Abuja.
Boboye, said the essence of the meeting is to reduce paper work, adding that police is incharge of internal security,criminal work.
“We believe with the contribution of the Nigerian Police we will be able to reduce incidents. There are a lot of things we can do together if we collaborate. I want to call for a much improved collaboration with the Nigerian police,” he said
The FRSC boss condemned the use of Siren in the Federal Capital , adding that Siren is mainly used for emergency and to clear roads.
“One other area I want us to collaborate effectively is the abuse of Siren. Siren is just for emergency, but the way it is being used now has called for concern. A lot of people are not entitle to use siren. The road is free by 11pm and you are using Siren. Siren is just to clear the way, I believe if we can have a collaboration with the police we should be able to tame the abuse”.
He also called for the collaboration of the police on the use of stunt driving in the FCT, the danger it poses to the public.
“Also the use of stunt driving in Abuja is extremely dangerous to the public. We need to collaborate for prosecution. Is not safe to be doing stunting, in the process people will be injured, if we can sanitise the use of siren , so that they will be prosecuted. And I believe we can put a stop to it, he said.
In his response, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, thanked the FRSC boss for the collaboration, promised that the police will do its best to support in any area needed.
Arase, also condemned the use of Siren by unauthorised persons, adding that the abuse of Sirens is a big problem in the country.
“The abuse of Siren is a big problem and we are doing everything possible to arrest any persons that is not authorised to use it. “ On the stunt driving he said “ this stunt driving is mostly the rich mans children, anybody found wanting will be prosecuted.”
