The Ogui Division of the police Enugu state command has arrested one Reginald Anidi said to be a notorious bandit for snatching at gunpoint a Honda pilot jeep with registration number AAA 598 CH from the owner at Ozalla, within Four Corner axis in Nkanu West Council area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu state Ebere Amaraizu, DSP in a statement said Reginald Adini, along with his comradesin- crime had swooped on the jeep owner, dispossessed him of the car and other personal effects before heading towards Enugu town where unknown to them, police operatives had been alerted and were waiting to strike.
Amaraizu disclosed that as suspected car snatchers approached Presidential road in the heart of the city, the police, armed with the necessary information about the hoodlums confronted them, prompting them to open fire and change direction.
“There was fierce exchange of fire,” the police stated.
According to Amaraizu, the Police pursued them, firing at them in the process until Reginald was caught when the car could no longer move. Amaraizu further disclosed that other members of gang escaped, but that the Police recovered one automatic pump action gun, one English made single barrel gun cut to size and cartridges.
PPRO said that Reginald Anidi hails from Enugwu Eke in Udi local Government Area of the state but claimed to be living with his parents at Secretariate quarters, Njemanze artisan quarters.
Amaraizu went on: “The 27 year old who also claimed to have graduated from North American University in Cotonou in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology in 2013 was nabbed in connection with a case of Armed Robbery and car snatching involving a Honda pilot jeep.
“Suspect is now helping the police in their investigations and on the nefarious activities of his gang members.
Amaraizu did not provide the victim’s name but explained:
“When the victim who was filled with joy about police performance surfaced at the police station, he identified the suspect and narrated his key role during the Robbery incident.
“Suspect is begging for forgiveness and attributed the act to peer influence and lack of job.”
