Ondo State To Host Tourism Innovation Conference In June

Ondo State is making arrangements to host the 2015 Tourism Innovation and Business conference next month

Come June 24 -26, 2015, Ondo State will play host to participants in this year’s Tourism Innovation and Business Conference organized by The Vision & Focus International, International Federation of Information Technology and Travel, Tourism and International Creative Tourism Associates.

According to the organiser, the conference which will hold in the state capital, Akure, will serve as a connective platform for innovative concept developers and investors in travel, leisure and tourism. It also added that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Mr. Wanle Akinboboye, will be heading the planning committee.

It also disclosed that the three- day event will showcase innovative tourism concepts for next generation of tourism enthusiasts and investors, adding that the concept of the conference will be showcased for investment and partnerships that will facilitates the realisation of issues presented during the conference.

“States with sporting facilities and growing tourism infrastructure can send their representatives to learn how they can attract international goodwill for global events with opportunities for tourist visits to the State.

“The conference will showcase the impact of ICT in travel and tour- ism industry, providing tested and proven IT solutions for the sector. Major industry leaders in informtion and communications technology will make keynote presentations, hold executive workshops and product demonstrations to drive home the functions and solutions ICT has brought to the travel & tourism sector.” the organiser revealed.

The organiser further disclosed that participants at the conference will be taken through specific areas such as e-marketing analytics, contextual information systems for tourism destinations, technology assimilation, cultural heritage digital cataloguing, recommender systems, tourism distribution strategies, travel meta-search, big data and cloud computing, adding that the conference will create opportunities to support new start-ups and SMEs in tourism sub-sectors.

“The recent re-based of the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, has shown significant contributions and growth potentials of Nigeria’s growing travel, leisure, entertainment and tourism sub-sectors. With the potential in the country’s growing creative industry, telecom sector, transport sector and a strong banking system, a strong tourism sector can have a tickle-down effect across the value chain, creating jobs and generating wealth for the local economy, the organizers further hinted.”

Ondo is one of the leading states with amazing tourism destinations in the country. The state is home to the famous Idanre Hill, located in Idanre town in the state.

The hill of Idanre is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Nigeria. It includes such cultural sites as “Owa’s Palace, Shrines, Old Court, Belfry, Agbooogun footprint, thunder water (Omi Apaara) and burial mounds and grounds”.

The hill resides 3000 ft above sea level and houses a unique ecosystem upon which the cultural landscape has integrated.
