The Wada led administration in Kogi state since assumption into office on January 27 2012, had made tremendous impact on the lives of Kogites by aggressively embarking on policies and projects that have directly touched the living condition of the citizenry.
The PDP ruling government under Capt. Idris Wada had made concerted efforts towards the provision of quality education, potable water, rural electrification, housing, health care and good roads amongst others. One of the giant strides made by the governor is in the education subsector and his visionary leadership has been impacting positively on the conventional education, with bias to technical/vocational education.
He is focusing on technical education with the aim of reducing the increasing rate of unemployment being experienced in the country. According to people the governor is desirous of finding lasting solution to continuous rate of joblessness in the state is not only commendable but worthy of emulation.
The establishment of the multi-million naira National Korea-Friendship Technological Advancement/Vocational Institute in Lokoja by the state government in collaboration with the Korea government was a major step taken by the Wada led administration to provide vocational skill that would enable the nation’s teeming population to be self reliant, without necessarily looking for the white collar jobs that are no longer readily available.
Happily the project will soon be becompleted and inaugurated for full academic operation in September. According to source from the state government house, the Institution would no doubt provide emp loyme n t opportunity for the host state as many will be engaged as instructors and other in lower cadre jobs. He said the project will also provide skills for the teeming youths in various vocations such as wielding, plumbing and fabricating amongst others.
The Institution will equally provide technical services to the people in terms of servicing of cars of all kind as well as detection of mechanical faults on car engines. The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Idris Wada on special project, Alfa Ibn Mustapha stressed the need for government at all levels to place emphasis on boosting technological education as a means of reducing the rising unemployment in Nigeria.
Mustapha lamented about the high rate of unemployment rocking the nation, saying that the only way to address the ugly development was to tailor the energy of the teeming youths to embrace vocational education that could give them specialized skills for self-reliant. According to him, the new technological institute which is to commence operation in September will offer courses like auto mobile technology, wielding , metal fabrication, computer education, car spraying and diagnosis and plumbing amongst others.
Mustapha who commended the initiative of the governor to collaborate with the Korea Government to build the multi-million naira technology Institution said the gesture would go a long way in benefiting the people of the state in skill acquisitions for self-sustaining. Meanwhile, Governor Idris Wada in a chat with newsmen in lokoja recently on the secret behind the successful completion of the new Nigeria- Korea Friendship Institute said he gave glory to God and the cooperation between the state government and the partnering Korea Government for the dream comes through.
According to the governor, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr. NOH Kyu-duk was expected to add glamour to the commissioning ceremony of the Institution as he was becompleted ing expected in the state to support him during the occasion. The friendship institute according to the Governor is only first of its kind in the country and it was unique in the Transformation Agenda of the present administration of the state government.
He said that the Institute is a product of collaboration between the Kogi State Government and Korea International Cooperation Agency, stressing that KOICA was conceived to provide advanced manpower training especially for the state’s industrial revolution and the country at large. He said the project was strategically located on the campus of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja to meet the dream of its initiators.
To provide the requisite environment for its effective take off and sustainability, the Hand-Over/ Commissioning Ceremony will be preceded by a seminar on the Development of Vocational Training in Nigeria Jointly organized by the Kogi State Government, KOICA Nigeria Office and National Planning Commission. Citizens and friends of Kogi State are expected to witness the epoch making ceremonies.
